Our son is from the Kacha Bira district of the Kambata Tembaro zone in southern ET. His City/Town is Shinshicho. Has anyone been able to locate these on a map?

thanks,

Matthew

Shinshicho is located at approximately 7°12'25"N 37°46'30"E.
Attached is an aerial photo of Kacha Bira Woreda, with Shinshico being just to the east of the center (the woreda boundaries are in red)

Jonathan,

My wife told me you would know where it was, thank you so much! I've been trying to gather as much information as possible on the area that our son is from. Amanda suggested I look at your other posts as well. The only other information I've found so far has been on the Kambata Development Network website. Any other suggestions would be great.

thanks again.

I found it on this map put together by a Peace Corps volunteer. Look south of Addis to Awassa and then go east. My daughter is from Shinshicho, too. It is a beautiful region of the country and was quite lush and green (and also muddy) when I was there in the summer rainy season. Diane (I think her user name is disack) posted some photos from Shinshicho awhile back. You might still be able to search for them; and I might have some I could post, too.
There is also the Kembata Women's Self-Help Center, which has a website with some info about the area (plus it seems like a pretty amazing group).
The map should be at:

Jonathan,
You rock! Seriously!

Our son is also from Kembata, but from another town, Mudula. Has anyone been able to learn anything about the language, Kembatisa? (Jonathan, perhaps you have more info up your sleeve?)

Thanks all,
Julia

Here is an aerial photo of Mudula and the surrounding area.

And a link to some basic information about the kembata/kembatasa/kambatisa/kembatinga language http://www.ethnologue.com/show_language.asp?code=ktb

Denboya is a small city (pop ~7000) in the Kedida Gamela woreda near Durame. I don't know exactly where in the woreda it is- attached is an aerial.

Attached is an aerial of Kacha Bira woreda with Hadero indicated. It is about 28 miles SSW of Hossana.
